The Black Liberation Mash-Up project weaves dance and spoken word performance. The work combines textual and movement vocabularies of liberation that explore self-definition, memory, history, black struggle, revolution and new visions. More specifically, the choreography explores contemporary/modern, West African, and African-American vernacular movement styles. Similarly, the mash-up text is based on Black liberation writing from 19th century to the present.
