Threshold Sites: The Welcome Table (2018)

The Welcome Table takes the lens of food, its preparation, its cultivation and the ways in which people, families and communities consume it-as a way of exploring and telling black women’s stories. The multifaceted project invokes questions of who sits at the table, who can eat, who eats with who, and the stratifications of power expressed through the creation of different tables to accommodate different groups of people.

Multiple versions of the project continue to be presented nationally including the solo exploration featured here. It is a multi-year project that will culminate in an evening-length work in the future.
